THE IMPORTANCE OF READING

BY ANA NORIEGA #BTO1D

The whole world knows that reading is very important, specially for children, though they often don’t do it because they don’t know the benefits of reading.

First of all, reading helps us learn new words and therefore expand our vocabulary. It also helps us train our minds; while we are reading, our minds are working.

Reading is a skill which we acquire when we are young. As we grow up, we use it to develop our intelligence and to discover new information.

But it doesn’t only have educative benefits, it also has benefits for our health. Reading before bedtime helps us relax our mind, and it reduces the stress due to the fact that, when we start to read, it takes us only six minutes to relax. It acts in the same way as music: it helps create new perspectives
when we have bad moments.

In my opinion, there are two main reasons why everybody should read. The first one is that reading makes us happier, opens our minds for new situations and for new ideas. It allows us to evade us from our reality. The second one is that reading is a free pastime. You can read magazines, newspapers, news on the Internet, books, articles...

Reading doesn’t have limits. It increases our imagination and our creativity. It is vital in our lives!

CHARITIES' IMPORTANCE

BY JUAN JOSÉ PÉREZ #BTO2C

Nowadays, there are many charities around the world. They help homeless people and citizens of countries which haven’t got a lot of resources. However, there aren’t many volunteers in these organizations, so we need to help them. Personally, I believe that everybody should take part in a charity, specially young people, to collaborate with people who need help.

In the first place, that help could be very useful for themselves. Secondly, they can notice that discrimination is something bad, because everybody has the same equalities.

So all in all, I think that there are several good reasons for people to become volunteers. Charities are something serious and very important for us. All people have to contribute a bit to make this world a better place to live in.

TECHNOLOGY

BY JOSÉ MANUEL RUIZ #BTO2C
It is well-known that technology has improved in the last years, and we use it to make our life easier. However, this fact makes that sometimes people need it a lot.

Personally, I think that it can be useful and quick if we need to find any current information. For example, when something has happened in a place of the world, we can know what is happening in two seconds.

Furthermore, in my opinion, if our computer or smartphone gets damaged, we won’t do same vital things. For instance, your boss could tell you to do any homework, and then you have to send it to him. But, if your connection doesn’t work, you wouldn’t be able to hand your work in.

On the whole, I believe people should use technology because it is a good way to expand everything. People must develop it a lot, but we always need to have different ways to solve the problems if we can’t use it.

MOBILE PHONES IN CLASS

BY MARCOS APARICIO #BTO2C

Is it positive or negative the use of mobile phones in class?

It is well-known that mobile phone use has increased over the last few decades, and nowadays more people use a mobile phone to communicate with others and to search information. Of course, this is not different at school.

From my point of view, mobile phones could improve the way the classes are done, since you can search information that you need, and you can do other kind of exercises; for example, playing some games that are positive for the right education.

Furthermore, in my opinion, teachers would have more comfortable classes, as if a student does not know to do anything, he can search it on the Internet.

On the whole, mobile phones should be permitted as they provide a wide range of benefits, and it could be great that one day students could do a good use of the mobile phone in class.

DONATIONS

BY LOLI RAMOS #BTO1D
Resultado de imagen de you blood save lives
This topic calls my attention because being a blood and marrow donor is a free privilege, since many lives can be saved by only one donation.

Even being Spain one of the most generous countries in this aspect, it is never enough. This simple gesture can save the stranger´s life but also people of your family.

From my point of view, in our present society we all should have enough information about what ill people need, because many people could be saved that way.

We don’t need people like “Pablo Ráez” to realize what we can do with only one donation.

My father has been a donor for fifteen years and he always says that it is frightening, but it is worse that there are people who die because there are not enough donors.

HOMESCHOOLING

BY MARÍA ARIZA, #BTO2A
Homeschooling is getting more and more popular, specially in countries like The United States. This method consists of giving classes at home, without the necessity of going to school, so children are directed at learning by their parents. There are many advantages, but also many disadvantages.

The points in favour could be that students spend more time studying what is worse for them while discovering the areas in which they stand out. Besides, in the northern countries, where the temperatures are very cold, it is an advantage considering that most of days they could not go to school because of the bad weather.

On the other hand, the main problem is the lack of coexistence with other children. This is vital for learning in an academic atmosphere and in an personal atmosphere. If the guy doesn’t socialize with others, it will affect him in the future.

To conclude, this type of school won’t have a great success in Spain in my opinion, since we have splendid teachers.

ESCARLATINA, A RARE BOOK

BY RAFAEL BUENO, BTO1D

I have recently read a book called ‘Escarlatina’. It is about a girl who likes cooking and she wants her parents to give her a present related with this hobby for her birthday.

The gift is a strange cooking teacher. Her parents thought she was a normal teacher, but the girl discovered that Escarlatina -the name of the teacher- was a dead person, something similar to a zombie, who had came to our world because she had a special mision.

I really like this book because it is very funny and makes me feel intrigued. Apart from this, the author is highly a good writer.

The only criticism I can do is that the first part of the book is not very good, but if you carry on reading, you will have fun.

So all in all, I recommend this book because it is very funny and extremely engaging, something that, as far as I’m concerned, is very important when you read a book.

BLOOMSDAY (16 JUNE)

Bloomsday (Irish: Lá Bhloom) is an annual commemoration on 16 June in Dublin and elsewhere to celebrate the life of Irish writer James Joyce and relive the events in his novel "Ulysses", all of which took place in Dublin on the same day in 1904. This date is a secular holiday in Ireland. The name comes from Leopold Bloom, the protagonist of Ulysses, and 16 June was the date of Joyce's first outing with his wife-to-be, Nora Barnacle, when they walked to the Dublin village of Ringsend.

HOW TO HAVE FUN WITH FRIENDS

BY JOSÉ ANTONIO RAMOS #BTO1C

1
When I see her, it's like the world around me stopped,
and my sight just focused on her eyes.

2
I know this is true love because it hasn't got happy final.
It simply hasn't got any final.

3
Appreciate and enjoy little things,
because throughout your life,
they become the biggest things.

4
You should never surrender,
because the things you think are dreams,
tomorrow they might be reality.

5
A true friend is the one who arrives when everybody leaves
and the one who stays with me when everybody hasn't already been.

6
When you ask me to hang out, I tell you no,
because I don't want to damage myself
with your looks and thoughts.

7
It's true that money doesn't give you happiness,
but it helps you to get whatever it makes you feel glorious.

8
The best memories you will remember are
the ones which, if you think about them,
they would be happening today.

9
You can't start as the best one.
Let yourself be taught by the ones who are better than you,
outdoing yourself to become the best one.

10
You should never judge people badly
before knowing them, because these people
could take part of your life in the future.

3
We were like a shooting star:
Beautiful, but momentary.

4
I used to like to be lost in lines of some book.
Now, I am lost in your body edges.

5
People think that a crazy person is
somebody who does senseless things,
but they're who enjoy life.

6
I'll rescue you only focusing my eyes on yours,
but for that reason you should stay by me side.

7
You are a crazy person,
but you are the one who makes me feel special,
like if I was the queen of your smile.

8
I fell down like a baby that couldn't walk,
but I stood up like a warrior.

9
Although it's a little bit difficult for you to understand me,
you're always trying it, and I love that.

Fly like a free bird, run like a leopard,
fight like an elephant, and think like a human.

WHY READING A BOOK IS IMPORTANT IN OUR SOCIETY?

BY NEREA ROJAS #BTO2D

Nowadays many people prefer watching a film rather than reading. They don’t understand that reading is fundamental for us to function in today's society.  A good example of this is when you have to find a job. You may ask yourself the reason. For many well-paying jobs reading is a requirement to work. There are reports and memos that must be read and responded to. Poor reading skills increases the amount of time it takes to absorb and redact in the workplace.

In my opinion, it is important because spoken and written words are the buildings blocks of life. You are transformed by the words that you have heard or read. What you become in the future will depend on the amount of time you spend to enrich your vocabulary now. People, families, relationships, and even nations are built from words .Think about it. What you learn about books will help you along all your life. You will need this ability if you want to access to higher education because you have to pass a competitive examination, in which they value your verbal skills and your level of understanding. Besides, you can discover a lot or interesting topics, like society, relationships, or history.

In conclusion, people should read more books and realize that this is a very important habit nowadays. So we should promote it.

ARE SUPERHEROES STILL THERE

BY LOURDES MEDIALDEA #BTO2D

“Marvel: the age of Ultron” is a new movie based on the Marvel Comics superhero team the Avengers. In this film, the Avengers fight against Ultron, an evil robot which was created by Tony Stark (Iron Man). Also, here the Avengers thought a lot about how they could fight if it comes something bigger or more powerful than them.

What  I like the most of the film was the special effects, the actors, and how they had interpreted the different personalities of their characters. At the beginning, they fought one another, but at the end they stay together as a group and completed each other.

In conclusion, it is a perfect film and one of my favourite. I suggest you wait until the credits, maybe you will find a surprise… You will thank me.

HELPING REFUGEES OR NOT?

BY ANTONIO HIDALGO #BTO2D
These days, a lot of people and mass media are talking about the refugees that come to Europe running away from the war, and if we should let them stay here or not allow them to enter. In my opinion, we must help them.

First and foremost, the refugees are fleeing from war and hunger. They are normal people that want to live in peace. The refugees come to Europe looking for a place where they can feel safe.

Secondly, we are all humans and we have to care for each other. We must treat them as we would like to be treated. We think that we won´t be in that situation, but we were in the same situation after the Spanish Civil War and the World War II. In the past, millions of european people were forced to leave their countries to escape from war and persecution.

In conclusion, we have to let the refugees enter in Europe and help them regardless of their religion or place of birth.

BEING HOMOSEXUAL IS NORMAL. DON'T WORRY!

By LUCÍA SABAS #BTO2B

Yesterday, I was reading the newspaper when I saw a very strange piece of news: In Morocco, if you're homosexual, you go to jail!!! I didn't know this and I find it very bad.

I think that we are in a poor world in many aspects although Technology advances every day. I think that we should pay more attention to the world around us. We are in the 21st century but, we are still underdeveloped in some aspects of life: the moral aspects...

Because a homosexual person is like a heterosexual one, and he or she doesn't have to go to jail for his or her sexual condition. In many countries, but specially in Morocco, they feel
coerced, and this is unfair. In my opinion, people should be free to develop their own freedom.

In conclusion, I think that you can't judge anyone for falling in love with someone else, but unfortunately nowadays people who should be in jail for having hurt another person aren't in jail, and those who love another person of the same sex are condemned in Morocco. We have to help to change the situation.

RECYCLING, MY #OPINION

 BY MIRIAM GÓMEZ #BTO2B
How many people recycle? Unfortunately, not many. In my opinion, recycling is very important. I think that all people should do it.

As I see it, recycling is essential to protect the environment. Firstly, if you don´t recycle, all waste will be dumped in landfills. As a consecuence of that, emissions could be toxic for human lungs . In addition, those emissions can pollute the air, which we breathe. Secondly, most waste is dumped in the sea, so if people don´t recycle, we will run out of clean water. Third, if we recycle , we will be able to collaborate with the creation of new products.

To sum up, I think that recycling is very important, and people should do it to protect the environment and improve our lives.

'MAMMA MIA' REVIEW

BY MARÍA BORNE #BTO2B
Mamma mia is a film which was directed in 2008 by Phyllida Lloyd. It was recorded in Greece. It's a comedy, romance and musical film. The main characters are Donna, who is starred by Meryl Streep; and Sophie, who is starred by Amanda Seeyfriect. There are more characters, like Sam, Bill, Harry, Donna and Sophie's friends. The film lasts 108 min.

The film is about a girl, Sophie, who is going to get married. She is looking forward to her wedding.

She wants to meet her father, but Donna, her mother, doesn't know who he is, so Sophie calls three men whom she found in her mother's diary and ask them if they can come. There are many problems, and finally Sophie makes an unexpected decision.

I think that this is one of my favourite films because I really like romance movies and also musicals. It's a nice story. I would recommend it to everybody who is in love and to my friend María, who would like to be a singer, because there are really catchy songs.

THE NOTEBOOK #REVIEW

  BY LUCÍA SENDRA #BTO1A
The Notebook is a movie directed by Nick Cassavetes and producted by Mark Johnson and Lynn. Made in United States, and released on October 22 of 24. The novel is set in South Carolina in the 40's . The story tells summer love.

Allie is a young girl of a rich family who spends the holidays in Seabrook and she fells in love with a humble and hardworking boy, Noah. Allie's parents do not approve this relationship, but they think it's just a summer love. They used to go to an abandoned house. Noah promised he would repair it . Seven years later,  Noah finished the house. And they have a pretty love story. Allie ,when she was old, suffers from alzheimer, and she is in a nursing home, and everyday Noah reads his notebook, which he used to write when he was young.

"The Notebook" is a ver beatiful film, and the characters are varied and interesting. To me, it's a very nice movie even if you can guess what's going to happen.

ELEVEN MINUTES

By MARÍA SERRANO #BTO2B

My favourite book is called Eleven Minutes. It's a novel written by Paulo Coelho.

It's about the life of Maria, a Brazilian beautiful and intelligent young girl and how she is cheated because her innocence and sent to Switzerland to work at a job that does not respect her and under conditions that were not agreed. There in Switzerland, she ended up working as a prostitute. She was proposed to keep working another year and then return home.

Maria is a very proud person. Since childhood, she had known she wanted to leave her town, see the world, and have a lot of money.

Throught the novel, she looks for adventure, freedom, love, and overcome goals.

What I like about this book is not the story, but all the meditations that Maria makes. She does not see love in a romantic way as in most of books. Moreover, I like the way the author talks about sexuality without any tabu. Personally, the end is not what I expected. Not because I don't like happy endings, but I believe the book deserves a cooler end.

I recommend it to everyone. It's a beautiful book written by a fantastic writer.
