UNEMPLOYMENT

BY EUGENIA GUARDIA, BTO2B
Many people believe that unemployment today is higher than before, but is this really true? In my opinion, unemployment rate has changed much.
In the past, people had to travel abroad because they did not have jobs and they could not support their families. So, they left the country in the order to find new opportunities. Nowadays, nobody can find job even if they go to another country.
Currently, unemployment has changed. There are more and more  people who can not find jobs anywhere. This economic crisis is affecting a lot of people in a negative way. Because of the crisis some people lose their houses as a result of lack of money.
In conclusion, I think that economic crisis should disappear so that can have a job and, people would not have a hard time.
To my mind, nowadays unemployment is a direct result of the economic crisis we are living.

INMIGRANTS

BY MAMEN PERLES, BTO2B
Nowadays, economy is unbalanced between all countries around the world; a little part of them has the majority of the money when the other part has not even enough food to survive. Because of this, people form the “worst countries” haVE to look for the way to survive.
Some time ago in Ceuta, an incident happened that has relation with the idea OF the first paragraph.
Immigrants from Africa wanted to jump the fence that separates Spain and Morocco. When they tried to get into the city of Ceuta, a group of Spanish policemen attemped to stop the action of those immigrants. They used tear gas and weapons that shoot rubber bullets to force the African people to return to their countries. This makes an attempt on immigrants’ liVes. These actions should be forbidden because they are people like the ones who live in the rich country, the only difference is that they go abroad with their pockets empty.
In conclusion, every single person has to be respected without distinguishing his or her ethnicity, economic situation or religious beliefs.

THE BEST LEAGUE OF THE WORLD

BY EUGENIO ROBLES, BTO2A
In Spain, the final of football league is very interesting for football fans. This league has three best teams with a finishing season very equaled and difficult to be the champion.
Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid are the most representative teams and they aspire to be the champion of league in two months. But their coaches have some difficulties to be the champion. Also, those three teams are competing in the European tournament, Uefa Champions League. Although those teams are very good, I think that they aren’t in their best moments. I believe that Real Madrid can have more problems to win the league, because they have less points than Barcelona and Atletico de Madrid.
In conclusion, I believe that for every football fan, the Spanish final league can be very interesting even if you are fan of another club.

ZUMBA

BY MARTA MARTÍNEZ, BTO2C
Nowadays, there are many ways to get fit without having to practice difficult exercises in a gym. Zumba is becoming a very fashionable sport in our society.
Zumba is a dance focused on the one hand to maintain a healthy body. On the other hand, it contributes to develop, fortify and give flexibility to the body by mixed dances following a set of aerobic routines.
In my opinion, it´s more fun than other exercises like weighlifting. Also, you can practice at wathever age becAuse there are different methods as Zumba gold, Zumba basicS, or Zumba step among others.
Clearly, practising Zumba will make you forget the stress for a few hours. If you practice this dance with a good diet, you helth will improve a lot.
In conclusion, if you want to have a good physical appearance and have fun while practising sport, dance Zumba and you´ll have a better mood and a happier life!

LUXURY HOTELS FOR PETS

BY BLANCA BESTEIRO, BTO2A
Nowadays, a relevant topic in our sociecity is the excessive care and attention to pets. In a lot of cases, this fact is taken to the extreme: elegant pet clothes, caviar for dogs, etc. But the most astonishing example TO me is the "pet palace".
The pet palace is a pet hotel which is considerably better than a basic kennel, which is generally composed of several cages and a large stock of tinned food. The hotel pet takes animal accomodation to a completely new level. This type of hotel is very famous in Japan.
People choose this option when they travel and they don´t know where to leave their pets. This is due to the fact that they know their pets will be living in luxury at a five stars hotel. The hotel consists of 170 rooms for up to 250 animals, varying from a relatively standard cage at the modest rate of 28$ a night, to an incredible 1000$ luxury suite. This is just about twice the price of a room at a mind-range hotel for humans. If you combine this with the facilities offered, such as veterinary care, hairdressing services, exercise field, pet gym, the owners will be able to relax on the beach , comforted by the hotel´s slogan: "Enjoy your travel overseas knowing that your pet is in good hands".
In my opinion, pets are having much more than their owners!
I would like to say that this type of place is an absolutely nonsense, because nowadays there are a lot of people which die due to hunger while a lot of animals are eating caviar and going to the hairdresser.Nowadays people waste their money without control, not thinking about the others.

SAFAHAIKUS II

BY CAROLINA CHEN @CarelessCarolyn, #BTO2A

I
When there's no longer
Heros, damsels nor castles
That's what we call life.

II
In the middle of
Powder hidden young facets,
Your clean face I spot.

III
Hundred years I change
For this chance to be the wind
That caress your face.

IV
Wanted summer gift
Green dress over sweet red flesh
Watermelon is.

V
Slender blue figure,
waltzing miles above the ground.
Sir, coffee or tea?

VI
With you, feeling alone.
What use of me is your being,
when your heart's long gone?

VII
Looking at the moon
No longer longing for joy.
Dreams broken too soon.

VIII
Naive little angels
Tearing away butterfly's wings,
Innocent, yet cruel.

IX
Nights with the lights up
endless work just to witness
Your approving nod.

X
Morning: eyes dropping.
Afternoon: minutes counting.
Night: sloth long time gone!

XI
It's time to hand in
Homework of Maths'n' History.
You got to help me!

XII
Tic, toc! Look! The time!
Hours facing this white paper
Thinking of a rhyme.

THE FUTURE OF SCHOOLS

BY JÉSSICA FERNÁNDEZ, BTO2A
Many people believe that in the future schools won't have books and teachers, but is this really true? In my opinion, schools are always changing because of technology.
In the future, Internet connections will be the biggest protagonists, though they will have taken all necessary steps so that teenagers surf without any danger. Books and tests will disappear because students will no longer need them as they will find everything they need in computers.
What's more, I think that there will be activities in which the students will work with other schools in a cooperative way although they don't know each other. Absent students will be able to follow the class on-line, and in addition, the guardianship can be on-line too.
In conclusion, I think that education of now and future will not be the same as the traditional one, because technology has acquired more importance than usual.

26.3.14

GOOGLE GLASS

BY INMA MOLINERO, ESO4C
Google Glass is a wearable device in the shape of glasses with a small screen and a camera at the right top of it developed by Google. The good thing about it is that you can communicate with the internet, take pictures, record videos, and do many other functions via voice commands. From my point of view, it's fascinating, as I see it as a huge step for technology. It can be interesting to do everything you can do with a smartphone hands-free.
On the other hand, there's always the price issue. It is said that the price won't go below $500 in 2014 - which is far from what most people can afford - and won't be worth it because of the lack of apps at the beggining.
In any case, I'm quite convinced it will be very successful by the year 2016 - if there aren't loads of competitors by then.

DO PARENTS AND CHILDREN AGREE WITH BILINGUAL SCHOOLS?

BY LOURDES REINA, ESO4D
Today, education is so important, and almost all shools want to improve their students marks, and with them children can learn a lot of English.
In my opinion, bilingual schools are not bad although my friends and more people think so. In these schools, you don't learn only your language, but you can learn two languages at the same time. You'll learn a lot of grammar, vocabulary, expreSSions, and even you can travel to foreign places in which you can understand everything.
So finally, I advise you a bilingual school for your children and their great education.

SHOT ME DOWN, BY DAVID GUETTA

Enjoy this great music with lyrics by David Guetta and Skylar Grey:

LYRICS:

I was five and he was six
We rode on horses made of sticks
He wore black and I wore white
He would always win the fight

Bang bang, he shot me down
Bang bang, I hit the ground
Bang bang, that awful sound
Bang bang, my baby shot me down

Seasons came and changed the time
When I grew up I called him mine
He would always laugh and say
Remember when we used to play

Bang bang, I shot you down
Bang bang, you hit the ground
Bang bang, that awful sound
Bang bang, I used to shoot you down

Music played and people sang
Just for me the church bells rang

Now he's gone I don't know why
Until this day, sometimes I cry
He didn't even say goodbye
He didn't take the time to lie

Bang bang, he shot me down
Bang bang, I hit the ground
Bang bang, that awful sound
Bang bang, my baby shot me down

SAY NO TO JUNK FOOD

BY BLANCA BESTEIRO, BTO2A
I think people´s health all over the world is getting worse, because everybody is eating more and more junk food. A lot of people eat at work, and this is not comfortable, and people decide to eat something quickly, normally fast food. But the junk food could have some advantages, for example its taste. It is cheap and easy to buy.
On the other hand, it´s true that most of the aspects related to fast food are negative.
Advertising is responsible for the increasing of junk food.
Finally, as a conclusion, i think that it is convenient to invest in sports and in a good nutrition to have a healthy country. You will also feel good and pleased with yourself.
According to experts, one TIP for everybody is walking everyday and doing many other activities such as using stairs instead of lifts, walking to work or school, drinking a litre of water every day, and deciding what type of food we want to eat carefully.

PEOPLE WHO DON'T RECYCLE SHOULD BE FINED

BY DARÍO CALA, BTO2C
Many people ought to be fined for not recycling. In my opinion, policemen should fine those people who don´t look after the environment.
In the past, people didn´t recycle because they weren´t aware of the importance of recycling. Furthermore, people didn´t throw so much rubbish and they used to reuse bottles or clothes. To my mind, this implies that in the past there was less pollution. Today, people are throwing more rubbish than before, but they recycle more and more because it´s essential to get a better environment.
In conclusion, I agree with recycling paper, plastic and glass. I also think that people shouldn´t throw so much rubbish.

ABORTION: MY OPINION

BY VIC DOS SANTOS, BTO2D
In mi opinion, the new law of abortion that the goverment wants to impose is incredible. With this new law, only raped women can abort. I can’t believe a law like this can be in democracy! Aborting is a decision that only women can choose, not the government, because it’s their life. People who have aborted are not killers. Even sometimes, abortion is the best option. For example, if a mother knows that her future son is going to be born with a rare disease and they both are going to suffer. Maybe aborting is the more appropRiate option. Aborting is a right, and the government mustn’t deny it, because we live in a democratic country.

THE GOLDEN BALL

BY MARTA MARTINEZ, BTO2C
Once again, the AWARD of the Gold Ball creates controversy. This year it has been awarded to Cristiano Ronaldo, who competed with Messi and Riveri (two other great players).
Some complain about the adversiting campaign for Cristiano, but the truth is that all the players have their own campaign, so they can not say that Cristiano took advantage of it.
Futhermore, Riveri won everything or almost everything with his team, making a perfect season. However, people who choose them have their own liking and preferences, they rate things concretely and reach a conclusion or opinion which is the key to say who´s the winner.
Football is a sport with millions of fans, and it´s very difficult to reach an agreement, so this award will still be controversial no matter who wins.

BULLFIGHTS: MY OPINION

BY SOL PACHECO, BTO2D
Bullfights are known throughout the world. In that way ,  enough people coincide that it is a mistreatment to animals: they're cruelly humilliated.
They consider the bull strong and dangerous, and the one that the bullfighters say to face in equality of conditions. However, it already comes disoriented and stunned to the bullring, surely because it has been submitted to a confinement in a small place and in the dark. It is often abused before heading out to the bullring to lose some of its strength from the horns, bumps, etc..
All these actions are done to debilitate the bull. Though, when it goes out to the bullring, it seems to be full of fierceness. It tries to jump the barrier because it sees itself dazzled by the light and disoriented by people's shouts.
In the bullfights, bulls are murdered, but they are not alone: the ill-treated animals, the horses that the horsebreakers use, also suffer pain with the onslaughts of the bulls. In fact, these animals die after taking part in 4 or 5 bullfights.
The most common argument that is given for the survival of the bullfight is to give the bull a worthy death.
I was saying to myself, and I say to myself, that if the bull made sense of dignity, he might not agree that his death makes an amusing show. I understand that bulls, as the rest of the irrational animals, may not make sense of dignity, since they may not have sense of either the good or the evil, either the justice or the cruelty. But what undoubtedly they have is an aptitude to suffer and to feel pain, and with this capacity, if they could choose the way of dying. They would choose without hesitation the death that was causing neither pain nor agitation, nor suffering. That is to say, everything opposite to death that is given to them. By this way, that I believe it is an indecent argument on the part of people who support bullfighting.
I believe that it should disappear in the whole world. I respect the culture, but this seems to me that it exceeds to any manifestation of custom.

NEW TAXES ON CULTURE

BY EDUARDO CASTELL, BTO2A
Some months ago, I read in the newspaper that the GOVERNMENT had decided to increase the taxes ON some cultural products, such as the cinema, theatre or any live show. The Minister of Culture said that in that period of time all the economical sectors had to contribute to get out of the economical crisis. From my point of view, this measure is absolutely wrong, like REDUCING BUDGET FOR the education system. If you want to have a developed country, you can't make the accesS to the materials that help improve the education more difficult for people. If I were the Minister of Culture, I would subsidize all the things that contribute to the develOpment of the mentality of people because it is a investment that will return more money in the future.

24.2.14

FAMOUS CHILDREN

BY CANDELA MARTÍN, BTO2C
Lots of children dream about being famous. We can watch on TV lots of kids who are actors or singers who live an enviable life. But are they really living a dream or a nightmare?
On one hand, you have everything you want. You are just a child and you can buy expensive clothes, travel around the world, and everybody lookS up to you.
But on the other hand, children are not mature enough to deal with all the stuff that fame supposes. You must work pretty hard, and that could be very stressful for children. That is the reason because some famous kids don’t have a happy ending and they finish with alcohol and drug problems and out law. Another problem is that some people still see you as a child even when you have grown up.
To sum up, I think that being famous when you are just a child is not easy, and if you are not very careful about what you do, your career can be over too early.

23.2.14

THE NEW ABORTION LAW

BY ALBERTO JIMÉNEZ, BTO2B
A few weeks ago ,  the Spanish government presented a new abortion law. From now on, Spanish women won't be able to abort if they want to.
Abortion has always been a contentious issue: it has been a political weapon for the conservative parties and the progressists , plus it has been a social question with no clear answer, which is a serious problem.
In my opinion, every woman should be free to do whatever she wants with her body. People who are against abortion say that it is a murder, but murder is the action of killing some person, and what a six weeks pregnant has in her belly is not a person - it is a fetus. A fetus is still considered a part of the woman.
Now either a raped woman, or a woman that can't afford a child, or just a woman that doesn't want to have children will have no choice but have the children.
In conclusion, we are getting back in time to the seventies because of a conservative government that attacks basic civil rights.

THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY

BY JAIME IBÁÑEZ #BTO2C
@2Cenfurecidos

Perhaps some of you have heard about a new film in cinemas which is called “The secret life of Walter Mitty”. This film is about a day-dreamer who is always thinking about a world of fantasies filled with heroism, romance and action instead of living his real life. One day he decided to embark on a global journey that will make his fictional world disappear.

I enjoyed watching this movie very much because it’s an inspirational story of a man who decided to make his dream come true. After watching it, I can swear to you that you will feel like fighting for your dreams like never before.

Nowadays, because of the circumstances people have stopped dreaming and thinking about a better life because they aren’t able to find what they really want. I’m sure that if you watch this film and you enjoy it as much as I did, you will feel like the most powerful person in the world, wanting to fight for your dreams.

FLORA A GRACE

BY FÁTIMA GONZÁLEZ-ALLER, BTO2A
"Flora and Grace" is a book written by Maureen Lee, a British novelist. "Flora and Grace" is set in the summer of 1944 in Switzerland. Flora finds herself holding a baby in a train station after his mother gave him to her before she was taken to a concentration camp. This book is an amazing representaion of how complex our lives can be, and how we do not live separate lives; we interact with each other. This book clearly represents how our lives can be affected by such drastic and unexpected factors, just like what happened to Flora. It also teaches us about the beauty of motherhood; this love is taught through the way Flora loves the boy as if she was her actual mother. Also, this connection between a mother and her son is best shown through the sacrifice Grace (the baby's mother) made by saving her son's life, no matter how hard it was for her.

BALCONING: ALCOHOL PLUS DRUGS

BY MARTA MARTÍNEZ, BTO2C
Since many years ago, young people tourist (mainly the English ones) HAVE PRACTICED this dangerous trend that consists OF jumping from balcony to balcony, or from a balcony to a pool. This is usual on Mediterranean hotels. The authorities, and even the hotel owners, don´t know how to end with this "activity", because it's impossible to watch and control all young tourists that stay in the hotels. It was decided to use advertisement campaigns, here and in their countries, to make the people be aware of the risk: they can't lose their lives when the only thing they have to do is to have fun on holidays.

In my opinion, this is a problem with a difficult solution, because each person decides to practise balconing or not (knowing that, usually, people who practise it take drugs and alcohol, whose mix is very dangerous). It is usual on young people to confuse risk with fun, a mistake that sometimes ends in a tragic case.

I hope that's just a passing trend, like so many others with no positive effects, so young people (with a long future) will stop dying.

TATTOOED PEOPLE

BY DARÍO CALA, BTO2C
We live in a sort of society which is really rudimentary in a lot of aspects.
One of them is judging people for their personal image. More specifically, a lot of people are not hired for a job just because they have got tattoos on their skin.
Tattoed people are considered rebel, immature, less capable or less "person" than someone with a totally clean skin.
I think it´s a mistake to judge people's values and talents just because of their personal-image preferences. Here in Spain, people are still judge because of that, among many other things. However, in other European countries, companies hire tattoed people for important positions; we should really learn from them because everyone has the right to work.
I think tattoed people should be able to denounce people who harras, bully or insult them. Everyone has the right to work, and a tattoo shouldn´t be an obstade for that.

SPORT IS GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH

BY JAIME IBÁÑEZ, BTO2C

Nowadays there are more and more people who are having health problems because of the lack of exercise on their daily routine. The number of children who have obese problems is increasing, so we must do something about this.

With the introduction of technologies, our society is becoming lazier and as a consequence of this, people prefer watching TV rather than going for a walk. The solution to all these problems is simple: we must teach people how to have a good time doing exercise because everyone doesn’t like the same sport. Furthermore, these “new sportmen or sportwomen” should do it about more than three days a week.

In my opinion, this is the best way to fight against obese problems because the more sport you practise, the fitter you’ll be. So, if you read this and you don’t practise sport, you must take your trainers and go for a walk at least!

EMPRESSES IN THE PALACE

BY CAROLINA CHEN, BTO2A

Red walls, enormous gardens, dark plots within the shadows... A not so common side of the Forbidden City for foreigners, but common sense for Chinese people. This is the background of the phenomenal TV series named "Empresses in the Palace". It has reached millions of views, but personally I don't think that it is educational or recommendable to watch.

The plot is about the young Zhenhuan, the seventeen-year-old daughter of a functionary of the royal court, who enters as a fresh maiden to the Emperor's harem, AND WHO is stuck between the two powers reigning in the shadows: the Empress and Consort Hua. Summarizing in my own words, it's a story about how an innocent white sheep turns into a calculative dark vixen.

Even though the storyline is fantastic and very interesting, it's also very dark and nerve-wrecking. Positive values, such as kindness and honesty, are the reason of the fall of Zhenhuan during the first season. They are portrayed as utopic and useless, when facing the ideals of power, lust and betrayal. This makes people's hearts' heavy, full with pesimism towards life.

MISS DOUBFIRE

BY BLANCA BESTEIRO, BTO2A

The comedy film I'm going to talk about is Miss Doubtfire. It is a fantastic film about divorce, how difficult it is for parents, and how much their children suffer.

I have chosen this film because it is my favourite. It is very funny and moving. If you watch it ,  you will understand why.

I would like to highlight that Robin Williams´ performance in this film is outstanding. His voice is absolutely perfect for the role of Miss Doubtfire. It has excelent dialogues and incredible moments. Another amazing aspect to bear in mind is Miss Doubtfire's aTtitude. She is crazy and modern in spite of her age.

On the other hand ,  there are general aspects which we should mention about this film. Maybe the end is a little long and boring. And perhaps the dialogues are a little difficult for young people. It is impossible that you won´t laugh with them. Perhaps we could think that Robin Williams shows off a little; That´s to say, it is the only important character in the film.

To sum up, Miss Doubtfire is an amazing film which both children and adults will enjoy. If you like to laugh and you appreciate sense of humoUr, you will love this film. Don´t miss it¡¡

USA AGAINST SYRIA

BY CLAUDIA GALÁN, BTO2C

Syria's situation (known in all the whole world) has forced the United States to react. But, why now? Why didn't they act before?

Most of mass media try to make us believe that the USA have decided to interfere in this moment because of the chemical weapons. Chemical weapons are extremely dangerous, and of course, they're forbidden worldwide.

In spite of that, some other people have a point of view completely different. Barack Obama and his government have decided to intervene just because they don’t want anyone, any country, to be more powerful than the USA. If they really cared about all children and all innocent people, they would have stopped Bashar al-Assad a pretty long time ago. It’s even degrading how ‘the richest and most powerful country in the world’ let all that people die, being killed, and they try to repair all the damage now.

Sorry, USA, I do not believe in your goodness.

THE HOST, BY STEPHANIE MYERS

BY BEATRIZ BOLADO, BTO2A

“The Host” by Stephenie Meyer: My review.

The Host is a science-fiction and romance novel by Stephenie Meyer. The idea of this book is alien souls who travel from planet to planet, taking the inhabitant species and learning about their ways of life.

In my opinion, Stephenie Meyer did a good job with this book because it's something different from "Twilight" Saga. The characters have very special personalities, and Melanie, the human whose body is being handled by Wanderer, the host, was very interesting to read. The ending of this book was very touching, probably the best part of the whole book.

However, the book takes much too long to get interesting. The first pages were so boring to read because they repeated the same things again and again.

In general, this book is a good read if you have nothing else to do. The beginning is so frustrating, but the novel has some plot twists that make it a good story to read.

CHEMICAL WEAPONS

BY ESTRELLA SAN NARCISO, BTO2C

Nowadays, everybody has heard about the civil war in Siria. As a result, over six million people have been forced to abandon their homes and become refugees.

What's more alarming is the fact that chemical weapons have being used. The UN investigators HAVE CONFIRMED that and GIVEN convincing evidences about it. (For example, people dying due to the use of sarin gas). Plus, the descent movement of air made even bigger the scope of it.

The effect of this dangerous gas is that it affects jitters ans muscles, and it ends up with death by asphyxia.

The spokesman of the White House informs that Al Asad was responsible for this attempt.
In my opinion, war is not a way to solve problems. Also, I think people who are responsible should be sentenced for life in prision because they could have damaged people's health, hurt innocent people and spoilT the tranquility in the Sirian community even more, resulting in never ending war.
