DOES MONEY BRING HAPPINESS?

#Opinion by
PEDRO CRESPO
#BTO2C @SAFASanLuis

Nowadays, money is the thing that moves the world. You only have to turn on the TV to see many problems caused by money. Not just economic issues, also problems in sport, wars, and even the lack of money can lead to problems in education or scientific advances. One question that is currently being asked is if money brings happiness. In my opinion, it helps a lot to get happiness.

Even though it sounds materialistic, thanks to money we can buy those material things, like clothes, houses, cars, etc. How it’s usually said, “we become accustomed to the good things very quickly”. With money, we can live great experiences, above everything, travelling.

With money, we can not only be happy ourselves, also we can make other people happy. We can achieve this by donating money to poor people.

However, there are people with a lot of money who are not able to enjoy their fortune, like executives, bussinesmens, etc. It is a proof that money does not give all happiness.

To sum up, money gives you happiness if you know how to use it.

WHAT CAN WE DO TO SOLVE CLIMATE CHANGE?

#Opinion by J. MANUEL RUIZ #BTO2C
It is well-known that climate change is one of the greatest environmental threats the planet is facing. However, what do people do about it?

Firstly, I believe that government must impose laws to reduce pollution. For example, if public transports were cheaper or free, people wouldn’t use their own cars or motorbikes, so pollution would be reduced a lot. In addition, there should be more laws to control the emissions of toxic gases from factories. In my opinión, we have the necessary technology to make factories stop polluting.

Furthermore, I think that we should recycle more, and we have to start using renewable energy sources. These sources are more effective than nowadays’ ones, and they will help to reduce global warming.

On the whole, I think that climate change is a more serious problem than people believe, and we have to solve it from now.

SMALL TOWNS OR BIG CITIES?

#Opinion by
MARCOS APARICIO
#BTO2C @SAFASanLuis

Small town life is preferable for some people, while others prefer to live in large cities. Which of these would you prefer to live and why?

It is well-known that the majority of people would like to live in large cities, but they have to live in small towns because of their economic situation. Nevertheless, there are people that like to live in small towns.

Firstly, I believe that living in a large city is better than living in a small town, as in a large city, there are more things and places to visit, to hang out and to have fun; for example, cinemas, bowling, game centre, monuments, theme parks, etc.

Moreover, if you live in a small town, you do not have the same opportunities as if you live in a big city where you can reach the newest technologies easily. That is why big cities have more population than other cities.

All in all, I am absolutely convinced that I prefer to live in  a big city rather than in a small town because you have less difficulties to reach technology and to improve your lifestyle.

THE IMPORTANCE OF DONATING

By MARÍA ARIZA #BTO2A

One more year, Spain has surpassed the leadership number of transplants, and this is demonstrated by the latest data presented by the National Transplant Organization. We have more than twice as many donors as the average of European countries, which places us in one of the most generous countries in the world.

No matter what your age is: you can be an organ donor, helping both young and old people, always in order to improve their way of life. However, minors who make this decision must consult with their legal tutors, as they must authorize it. In addition, you must be informed of all types of donations that exist, such as kidney, liver, lung, heart, pancreas, blood ..., performing in the first place those that are scarce.

As a conclusion, we should all be aware of the satisfaction of knowing that other people’s life is being improved with this gesture.

DEATH PENALTY: YES OR NO?

By JAIME MUÑOZ #BTO2A
Nowadays, death penalty is a very controversial topic.

There are still 58 countries where this penalty remains. However, some people are against it. Personally, I believe that death row shouldn't be legal; I think that it isn't ethical considering that we shouldn't teach people not to kill by killing them.

Furthermore , it can be possible to sentence somebody to death who isn't guilty; in fact, it has already happened.

On the whole, I think everybody should have the right to live although they are criminals. If I had to make a choice, I would establish life imprisonment sentences as the biggest legal punishment, with those people alive staying in a prison for their lifetimes.
I truly believe that is the fairest thing to do.

IS CLIMATE CHANGE AS BAD AS PEOPLE SAY?

#Opinion by DANIEL VÁZQUEZ #BTO2C @safasanluis
Nowadays, the effects and the problems produced by climate change are evident. But some people doubt if it’s as dangerous as it seems to be. Let’s check some real facts to make those people open their eyes.

Firstly, there are scientific studies which show that the temperature is rising a bit more every year, and so does the level of oceans and the number of illnesses produced by the sun.

On the other hand, some animals and plants are disappearing because their ecosystems are being destroyed by the climate change. For example, the polar bear might disappear in a few years if we don’t do anything to try to stop this problem, because the poles are melting due to the rise of temperatures.

To sum up, I think that we must pay more attention to climate change, because it’s killing our planet slowly, and almost nobody seems to care about it.

IS OBESITY A SOCIAL PROBLEM NOWADAYS?

BY SONIA AGUILAR #BTO2C
Being with obesity is a health problem which consists in having too much weight and being too fat.

On the one hand, obesity is sometimes caused by a birth problem, and people can't do any other thing than going out to walk and having a healthy diet. On the other hand, obesity is a problem because people don't do any sport and eat junk food; although if they want, they could lose weight with some effort, patience and dedication.

Also, obesity nowadays is really present in children. A few years ago, children usually spent their time playing with their friends on the street or something like that. But now, most of them spend all the time sitting in front of the screen of a computer, a mobile phone, the television, etc; and they love fast food and hate vegetables.

To sum up, I think that everybody should have a healthy diet with all kind of food and practice some sport or go to the gym. Futhermore, adult people should make their children aware about this problem, too.

DESTROYING OUR SOURCE OF LIFE

BY PILAR MORENO #BTO2C
Only 3% of the water in our planet is potable. Knowing this, people should treat it as if it was a treasure. But instead of that, they pour hundreds of chemicals into it every day, making it toxic, not just for humans but also for animals, specially fishes.

From my point of view, one of the biggest issues is the excessive amount of toxic materials factories throw into the water, not caring about how harmful that can be.  Because of this, we are starting to see the water of the rivers in big cities is turning black, and losing all the animals that live in it.
However, the water isn't polluted just  because of this. We use a lot of potable water at our houses when it isn't really necessary; for example, when we water our plants, or when we wash the dishes.

In conclusion, we should be careful with the use we give to potable water and try not to pollute it as much as we do. Keep in mind little things can make big changes, so start saving water at home!

STUDYING IN OTHER COUNTRIES

BY JOTA PÉREZ #BTO2C
These days, studying in other countries is very popular among university student. Some people say that studying outside is ridiculous when, in your country, there are very good universities. However, there is a big list of good reasons that makes you change your opinion.

In the first place, you can learn a new language more fluently than in a classroom. Secondly, you will make new friends from different parts of the world. In addition, you will know new cultures that will have something to bring you. Finally, you can improve your possibility to obtain an education with an excellence reputation. In countries, such as Germany and Finland, the priority is the quality of the education. Then, you will become irresistible to any company.

All in all, there are several good reasons to study outside. In conclusion, you could break with the routine that you have in your life; you will know people; you will become independent, and you could get your own salary. This makes studying abroad a complete adventure and a good experience for your life.

ARE CEOs PAID TOO MUCH?

BY VÍCTOR MORENO #BTO2C
As some people may say ‘money makes the world go round’, it seems a little paradoxical that, while some countries keep developing at a very high speed and aiming to become global superpowers, there are others that strive just to obtain the necessary goods to survive. A reason for this is because society allows big companies to pay millionaire salaries to their CEOs. I believe they are paid too much and I will give some reasons to explain my point of view.

It is well known that there’s a minimum amount of money that a worker must earn as the law says so, but there’s not such a thing as ‘maximum wage’. Therefore, setting some boundaries to the salaries of the CEOs is a great measure to ensure more equality in remuneration. For example, a CEO’s payment can only be 20 times higher than the salary of those who earn the less in that company. In that way, if the chairman wants to raise his salary, he would have to raise the other workers’ wages first. Furthermore, other legal procedures, such as increasing taxes to the rich people, are being considered by governments from First-World countries; so the different nations can use this money to make the world a fairer place.

In order to create a more equal society, we as a community have to make sure that the enormous pay gap starts to be proportionally reduced, as it leads nowhere but to a life of excess, and thousands more of poverty.

VIOLENCE ENCOURAGES VIOLENCE IN CHILDREN

BY JOSÉ MANUEL RUIZ #BTO2C
It is well-known that videogames use has increased over the last few years, and most children nowadays use them as a hobby. However, there are people who think that the use of certain videogames could be dangerous.

Personally, I think that children should play videogames which are appropriate for their age. For example, there are some videogames that deal with drugs, weapons, wars… That’s the kind of videogames that children mustn’t play because they are for people who are older than eighteen.

Furthermore, I think that there are a lot of parents who don’t care about their children, and they only want to keep them quiet. Consequently, if they let them play inappropriate videogames, their children could behave worse in the future.

On the whole, it’s clear to me that the use of videogames is not the problem of the violence in children, and I think that if we play it respecting the recommended age, there won’t be violence problems in children.

WHAT DO YOU PREFER A BIG CITY OR A SMALL ONE?

BY JOSÉ ANTONIO RAMOS #BTO2C

Personally, I have lived in El Puerto de Santa Maria, a small city, since I was born, so I have never experienced how it is living in a big city, such as Seville or Madrid, even though this lifestyle has always attracted me.

When I say “this lifestyle”, I mean the way of life of capital cities. Although I know it is very stressful, I love this way of stress, which I think it’s not always bad, because a stressful city means that there are always people on the streets and, at least, some good atmosphere, which I’m not very used to.

At the same time, I know that living in a big city is not always the best for example. You spend more time going to the same distance in a big city than in a small one. Another aspect is that big cities are unhealthier because it’s easier to infect with any disease and, in addition, because of the pollution.

Besides, it’s more expensive to live in, but there are also more opportunities to be successful, and this fact will help me reach my goal.

In conclusion, although living in big cities has many bad things, there are more good ones. I hope I will have any chance to live in a capital, just to try it. Who knows? Perhaps, in the future, I will live in the smallest city in the world.
