WHAT DO YOU PREFER A BIG CITY OR A SMALL ONE?

BY JOSÉ ANTONIO RAMOS #BTO2C

Personally, I have lived in El Puerto de Santa Maria, a small city, since I was born, so I have never experienced how it is living in a big city, such as Seville or Madrid, even though this lifestyle has always attracted me.

When I say “this lifestyle”, I mean the way of life of capital cities. Although I know it is very stressful, I love this way of stress, which I think it’s not always bad, because a stressful city means that there are always people on the streets and, at least, some good atmosphere, which I’m not very used to.

At the same time, I know that living in a big city is not always the best for example. You spend more time going to the same distance in a big city than in a small one. Another aspect is that big cities are unhealthier because it’s easier to infect with any disease and, in addition, because of the pollution.

Besides, it’s more expensive to live in, but there are also more opportunities to be successful, and this fact will help me reach my goal.

In conclusion, although living in big cities has many bad things, there are more good ones. I hope I will have any chance to live in a capital, just to try it. Who knows? Perhaps, in the future, I will live in the smallest city in the world.

IS FEMINISM IMPORTANT REALLY?

BY CARLOS CASTRO #BTO2C
Feminism is a social movement which began in the 18th  century and fights against female oppression, exploitation and domination. Contrary to what many people think, feminism’s objective is not to disregard men, but to find equality between both men and women.

In 2017, 44 women were killed in Spain due to violence against women. That is the reason why we need feminism. During history, men have ruled the world oppressing women. In fact, Spanish women voting for the first time was during the 1933 election, not so long ago, and it was possible thanks to those women who have fought against patriarchy. On the other hand, we must not forget about the ones who are still dominated. In most of Middle Eastern countries, women can’t vote, and they are even forced to marry someone they don’t love. Furthermore, men can hit women being unpunished before the law.

In conclusion, the era of women is here, and it is our duty to support it, because we all want to be respected.

HOW DOES TV INFLUENCE OUR LIFE?

BY DANIEL VÁZQUEZ, #BTO2C
Nowadays, most people spend a lot of time watching TV in their free time, because it’s an easy way to have fun. But is the TV a positive or a negative thing?

From my point of view, if we watch a lot of TV, we lose our creativity, because we keep our mind thinking on what we are watching on TV, instead of reading a book, listening to music, talking with other people… which are more productive things for training our brain and for our life in general.
What’s more, TV advertisements influence on what we buy, because some of them are so eye-catching that they make you buy the product, even if you don’t need it.
To sum up, I think that we should educate the young ones so they can use the TV properly, just an hour or a couple of hours a day. If you are watching the TV more than this, think about it because maybe you’re wasting your time.

MOBILE PHONES AT SCHOOL

BY FÁTIMA GRANJA, #BTO2C
Nowadays mobile phones have become part of our of life. We use them for everything, and we could spend hours looking at their screen, but is their use appropriate in every situation, for example at school?

Mobile phones can have great advantages and can be very useful in class. They are a huge source of any type of information. Besides, using some apps instead of the regular books can be an original and different way for students to learn something new.
Apart from that, they make communication between the teacher and the students much easier, because they can share information or documents instantly.

In these days, we can not deny that technology is everywhere, and we have to incorporate it in our daily life, even at school. In conclusion, I think that mobile phones are a good learning tool, and we shouldn’t avoid using them.

LIVING IN A BIG OR SMALL CITY?

BY DANIEL CABEZA, #BTO2C
Nowadays, the only purpose of the cities is getting bigger. If there are more people, it means more money for the local government. From my point of view, this could be a problem for all those citizens.

First of all, the first thing you can do is moving out to a small town, so you won’t have to put up with the massive traffic of the big cities. Even if you don’t have a car, taking the metro or the bus could stress you out.

Secondly, it increases the difficulty to find a job, or even going to any restaurant, which would be full of people, and you would have to wait for hours to get a table.

In conclusion, it is better to live in a small town because there’s no traffic, it is easier to get a job, and you won’t get anxious if you want to eat in any restaurant. It is all calmed and relaxing.

POSTAL CODE

BY MARÍA ARIZA, #BTO2A

People have to make many decisions throughout their lives. However, we can’t choose the most important, from my point of view: where to be born, since it marks our future.

Being born in Africa or in Europe, even though they are next to each other, will suppose completely different ways of living. For instance, African children  are often orphans, because with poor health many women die in childbirth, and life expectancy is also very short. In order to survive, they need to travel kilometers until they find water, which they have to carry home. Another very important issue is the low level of education. Not everyone can afford to go to schools, because it is far from their homes. Therefore, they will not be able to dedicate themselves to what they like.
However, in developed countries, babies are born in hospitals and the majority live with their families. They have a place to live and to eat; they go to schools; and they can freely decide what they will be in the future.

In conclusion, we live in an unfair world. We should have the same possibilities regardless of where we are born, so we must all fight to get it.

THE IMPORTANCE OF READING

BY ANA NORIEGA #BTO1D

The whole world knows that reading is very important, specially for children, though they often don’t do it because they don’t know the benefits of reading.

First of all, reading helps us learn new words and therefore expand our vocabulary. It also helps us train our minds; while we are reading, our minds are working.

Reading is a skill which we acquire when we are young. As we grow up, we use it to develop our intelligence and to discover new information.

But it doesn’t only have educative benefits, it also has benefits for our health. Reading before bedtime helps us relax our mind, and it reduces the stress due to the fact that, when we start to read, it takes us only six minutes to relax. It acts in the same way as music: it helps create new perspectives
when we have bad moments.

In my opinion, there are two main reasons why everybody should read. The first one is that reading makes us happier, opens our minds for new situations and for new ideas. It allows us to evade us from our reality. The second one is that reading is a free pastime. You can read magazines, newspapers, news on the Internet, books, articles...

Reading doesn’t have limits. It increases our imagination and our creativity. It is vital in our lives!

CHARITIES' IMPORTANCE

BY JUAN JOSÉ PÉREZ #BTO2C

Nowadays, there are many charities around the world. They help homeless people and citizens of countries which haven’t got a lot of resources. However, there aren’t many volunteers in these organizations, so we need to help them. Personally, I believe that everybody should take part in a charity, specially young people, to collaborate with people who need help.

In the first place, that help could be very useful for themselves. Secondly, they can notice that discrimination is something bad, because everybody has the same equalities.

So all in all, I think that there are several good reasons for people to become volunteers. Charities are something serious and very important for us. All people have to contribute a bit to make this world a better place to live in.

15.12.17

TECHNOLOGY

BY JOSÉ MANUEL RUIZ #BTO2C
It is well-known that technology has improved in the last years, and we use it to make our life easier. However, this fact makes that sometimes people need it a lot.

Personally, I think that it can be useful and quick if we need to find any current information. For example, when something has happened in a place of the world, we can know what is happening in two seconds.

Furthermore, in my opinion, if our computer or smartphone gets damaged, we won’t do same vital things. For instance, your boss could tell you to do any homework, and then you have to send it to him. But, if your connection doesn’t work, you wouldn’t be able to hand your work in.

On the whole, I believe people should use technology because it is a good way to expand everything. People must develop it a lot, but we always need to have different ways to solve the problems if we can’t use it.

MOBILE PHONES IN CLASS

BY MARCOS APARICIO #BTO2C

Is it positive or negative the use of mobile phones in class?

It is well-known that mobile phone use has increased over the last few decades, and nowadays more people use a mobile phone to communicate with others and to search information. Of course, this is not different at school.

From my point of view, mobile phones could improve the way the classes are done, since you can search information that you need, and you can do other kind of exercises; for example, playing some games that are positive for the right education.

Furthermore, in my opinion, teachers would have more comfortable classes, as if a student does not know to do anything, he can search it on the Internet.

On the whole, mobile phones should be permitted as they provide a wide range of benefits, and it could be great that one day students could do a good use of the mobile phone in class.

DONATIONS

BY LOLI RAMOS #BTO1D
Resultado de imagen de you blood save lives
This topic calls my attention because being a blood and marrow donor is a free privilege, since many lives can be saved by only one donation.

Even being Spain one of the most generous countries in this aspect, it is never enough. This simple gesture can save the stranger´s life but also people of your family.

From my point of view, in our present society we all should have enough information about what ill people need, because many people could be saved that way.

We don’t need people like “Pablo Ráez” to realize what we can do with only one donation.

My father has been a donor for fifteen years and he always says that it is frightening, but it is worse that there are people who die because there are not enough donors.

11.12.17

HOMESCHOOLING

BY MARÍA ARIZA, #BTO2A
Homeschooling is getting more and more popular, specially in countries like The United States. This method consists of giving classes at home, without the necessity of going to school, so children are directed at learning by their parents. There are many advantages, but also many disadvantages.

The points in favour could be that students spend more time studying what is worse for them while discovering the areas in which they stand out. Besides, in the northern countries, where the temperatures are very cold, it is an advantage considering that most of days they could not go to school because of the bad weather.

On the other hand, the main problem is the lack of coexistence with other children. This is vital for learning in an academic atmosphere and in an personal atmosphere. If the guy doesn’t socialize with others, it will affect him in the future.

To conclude, this type of school won’t have a great success in Spain in my opinion, since we have splendid teachers.

ESCARLATINA, A RARE BOOK

BY RAFAEL BUENO, BTO1D

I have recently read a book called ‘Escarlatina’. It is about a girl who likes cooking and she wants her parents to give her a present related with this hobby for her birthday.

The gift is a strange cooking teacher. Her parents thought she was a normal teacher, but the girl discovered that Escarlatina -the name of the teacher- was a dead person, something similar to a zombie, who had came to our world because she had a special mision.

I really like this book because it is very funny and makes me feel intrigued. Apart from this, the author is highly a good writer.

The only criticism I can do is that the first part of the book is not very good, but if you carry on reading, you will have fun.

So all in all, I recommend this book because it is very funny and extremely engaging, something that, as far as I’m concerned, is very important when you read a book.

BLOOMSDAY (16 JUNE)

Bloomsday (Irish: Lá Bhloom) is an annual commemoration on 16 June in Dublin and elsewhere to celebrate the life of Irish writer James Joyce and relive the events in his novel "Ulysses", all of which took place in Dublin on the same day in 1904. This date is a secular holiday in Ireland. The name comes from Leopold Bloom, the protagonist of Ulysses, and 16 June was the date of Joyce's first outing with his wife-to-be, Nora Barnacle, when they walked to the Dublin village of Ringsend.

It simply hasn't got any final.

3
Appreciate and enjoy little things,
because throughout your life,
they become the biggest things.

4
You should never surrender,
because the things you think are dreams,
tomorrow they might be reality.

5
A true friend is the one who arrives when everybody leaves
and the one who stays with me when everybody hasn't already been.

6
When you ask me to hang out, I tell you no,
because I don't want to damage myself
with your looks and thoughts.

7
It's true that money doesn't give you happiness,
but it helps you to get whatever it makes you feel glorious.

8
The best memories you will remember are
the ones which, if you think about them,
they would be happening today.

9
You can't start as the best one.
Let yourself be taught by the ones who are better than you,
outdoing yourself to become the best one.

WHY READING A BOOK IS IMPORTANT IN OUR SOCIETY?

BY NEREA ROJAS #BTO2D

Nowadays many people prefer watching a film rather than reading. They don’t understand that reading is fundamental for us to function in today's society.  A good example of this is when you have to find a job. You may ask yourself the reason. For many well-paying jobs reading is a requirement to work. There are reports and memos that must be read and responded to. Poor reading skills increases the amount of time it takes to absorb and redact in the workplace.

In my opinion, it is important because spoken and written words are the buildings blocks of life. You are transformed by the words that you have heard or read. What you become in the future will depend on the amount of time you spend to enrich your vocabulary now. People, families, relationships, and even nations are built from words .Think about it. What you learn about books will help you along all your life. You will need this ability if you want to access to higher education because you have to pass a competitive examination, in which they value your verbal skills and your level of understanding. Besides, you can discover a lot or interesting topics, like society, relationships, or history.

In conclusion, people should read more books and realize that this is a very important habit nowadays. So we should promote it.

ARE SUPERHEROES STILL THERE

BY LOURDES MEDIALDEA #BTO2D

“Marvel: the age of Ultron” is a new movie based on the Marvel Comics superhero team the Avengers. In this film, the Avengers fight against Ultron, an evil robot which was created by Tony Stark (Iron Man). Also, here the Avengers thought a lot about how they could fight if it comes something bigger or more powerful than them.

What  I like the most of the film was the special effects, the actors, and how they had interpreted the different personalities of their characters. At the beginning, they fought one another, but at the end they stay together as a group and completed each other.

In conclusion, it is a perfect film and one of my favourite. I suggest you wait until the credits, maybe you will find a surprise… You will thank me.

HELPING REFUGEES OR NOT?

BY ANTONIO HIDALGO #BTO2D
These days, a lot of people and mass media are talking about the refugees that come to Europe running away from the war, and if we should let them stay here or not allow them to enter. In my opinion, we must help them.

First and foremost, the refugees are fleeing from war and hunger. They are normal people that want to live in peace. The refugees come to Europe looking for a place where they can feel safe.

Secondly, we are all humans and we have to care for each other. We must treat them as we would like to be treated. We think that we won´t be in that situation, but we were in the same situation after the Spanish Civil War and the World War II. In the past, millions of european people were forced to leave their countries to escape from war and persecution.

In conclusion, we have to let the refugees enter in Europe and help them regardless of their religion or place of birth.

BEING HOMOSEXUAL IS NORMAL. DON'T WORRY!

By LUCÍA SABAS #BTO2B

Yesterday, I was reading the newspaper when I saw a very strange piece of news: In Morocco, if you're homosexual, you go to jail!!! I didn't know this and I find it very bad.

I think that we are in a poor world in many aspects although Technology advances every day. I think that we should pay more attention to the world around us. We are in the 21st century but, we are still underdeveloped in some aspects of life: the moral aspects...

Because a homosexual person is like a heterosexual one, and he or she doesn't have to go to jail for his or her sexual condition. In many countries, but specially in Morocco, they feel
coerced, and this is unfair. In my opinion, people should be free to develop their own freedom.

In conclusion, I think that you can't judge anyone for falling in love with someone else, but unfortunately nowadays people who should be in jail for having hurt another person aren't in jail, and those who love another person of the same sex are condemned in Morocco. We have to help to change the situation.

RECYCLING, MY #OPINION

 BY MIRIAM GÓMEZ #BTO2B
How many people recycle? Unfortunately, not many. In my opinion, recycling is very important. I think that all people should do it.

As I see it, recycling is essential to protect the environment. Firstly, if you don´t recycle, all waste will be dumped in landfills. As a consecuence of that, emissions could be toxic for human lungs . In addition, those emissions can pollute the air, which we breathe. Secondly, most waste is dumped in the sea, so if people don´t recycle, we will run out of clean water. Third, if we recycle , we will be able to collaborate with the creation of new products.

To sum up, I think that recycling is very important, and people should do it to protect the environment and improve our lives.

'MAMMA MIA' REVIEW

BY MARÍA BORNE #BTO2B
Mamma mia is a film which was directed in 2008 by Phyllida Lloyd. It was recorded in Greece. It's a comedy, romance and musical film. The main characters are Donna, who is starred by Meryl Streep; and Sophie, who is starred by Amanda Seeyfriect. There are more characters, like Sam, Bill, Harry, Donna and Sophie's friends. The film lasts 108 min.

The film is about a girl, Sophie, who is going to get married. She is looking forward to her wedding.

She wants to meet her father, but Donna, her mother, doesn't know who he is, so Sophie calls three men whom she found in her mother's diary and ask them if they can come. There are many problems, and finally Sophie makes an unexpected decision.

I think that this is one of my favourite films because I really like romance movies and also musicals. It's a nice story. I would recommend it to everybody who is in love and to my friend María, who would like to be a singer, because there are really catchy songs.

THE NOTEBOOK #REVIEW

  BY LUCÍA SENDRA #BTO1A
The Notebook is a movie directed by Nick Cassavetes and producted by Mark Johnson and Lynn. Made in United States, and released on October 22 of 24. The novel is set in South Carolina in the 40's . The story tells summer love.

Allie is a young girl of a rich family who spends the holidays in Seabrook and she fells in love with a humble and hardworking boy, Noah. Allie's parents do not approve this relationship, but they think it's just a summer love. They used to go to an abandoned house. Noah promised he would repair it . Seven years later,  Noah finished the house. And they have a pretty love story. Allie ,when she was old, suffers from alzheimer, and she is in a nursing home, and everyday Noah reads his notebook, which he used to write when he was young.

"The Notebook" is a ver beatiful film, and the characters are varied and interesting. To me, it's a very nice movie even if you can guess what's going to happen.

ELEVEN MINUTES

By MARÍA SERRANO #BTO2B

My favourite book is called Eleven Minutes. It's a novel written by Paulo Coelho.

It's about the life of Maria, a Brazilian beautiful and intelligent young girl and how she is cheated because her innocence and sent to Switzerland to work at a job that does not respect her and under conditions that were not agreed. There in Switzerland, she ended up working as a prostitute. She was proposed to keep working another year and then return home.

Maria is a very proud person. Since childhood, she had known she wanted to leave her town, see the world, and have a lot of money.

Throught the novel, she looks for adventure, freedom, love, and overcome goals.

What I like about this book is not the story, but all the meditations that Maria makes. She does not see love in a romantic way as in most of books. Moreover, I like the way the author talks about sexuality without any tabu. Personally, the end is not what I expected. Not because I don't like happy endings, but I believe the book deserves a cooler end.

I recommend it to everyone. It's a beautiful book written by a fantastic writer.

MY OPINION ABOUT MANUEL CARRASCO

By JULIA RÍOS #BTO2B

I am going to talk about te new album of one of my favourite singers. His name is associated with one of the most famous reality TV show in Spain in the last teen years.

The name of the TV programme was ¨Operación Triunfo¨ when he started became a famous singer after finishing in second place in the second season.

Right now, he has just launched his eight studio album and is coaching in another TV show which is called ¨The Voice. His name is Manuel Carrasco.

In my opinión, Manuel Carrasco is one of the best singers from Huelva. I would like to say his music style and his voice are very romantic and close to his fans. His sweet voice and his lirycs make me feel happy and romantic at the same time.

In conclusion, I really love his music and I definitly recommend his songs to everybody.

TEENAGERS AND SMOKING

By ISABEL MARTÍN #BTO2D

Nowadays, a lot of teenagers start smoking too soon but they don´t realize that smoking is very unhealthy for themselves.

I believe that smoking is very attractive to them because it is something that we see as normal in our society.

Firstly, one of the reasons why young people start to smoke is because they are influenced by their parents. Children have seen their parents smoking all their lives, and when they get older they get curious to know about the feeling you get when you try a cigarette. Another reason is if a group pressure a member. For example, a group of friends are smoking, and one of them has never tried a cigarette before; if a friend offers a cigarette, the boy will probably say yes, because he doesn´t want to stand out or get bullied for not smoking.

In conclusion, these are the most prominent reasons for teenagers to start smoking. From my line of thinking, they should have personality and say 'NO!' when they don´t want a cigarette.

WILL PEOPLE'S LIFE CHANGE IN 25 YEARS?

By LOURDES MEDIALDEA #BTO2D

The world is progressing really fast, and life is now different from how it was 50 years ago. Therefore, I believe that, in general, life will be even harder in 25 years.

On the one hand, people will be focused on their jobs, so they will have children later, because they will prefer getting a good job, instead of taking care of their children.

On the other hand, we've got education. Education is getting harder every year. Everyone wants a good job in which they could earn enough money to live without worrying, so everybody is competing to get better marks. That’s why  teenagers are having more and more issues of anxiety and stress.

In conclusion, I think that we will need to take more care of our children and less care of our job, which yes, it is really important but, the most important thing in the world is being happy. So yes, life will change in 25 years.

PRACTICAL SKILLS

By ALBA SÁNCHEZ #BTO2D
Some people think that teenagers nowadays only have to concentrate on academic subjects and ignore themes which teach you practical skills, such as managing money and applying for jobs, because "they're not as important as them".

First and foremost, practical skills are fundamental things that everybody should know. For example, it doesn't matter if you have excellent marks in science if you don't know how to do a curriculum vitae or do a job interview.

It is also important to consider that many academic subjects require so much concentration and, it's irritating, so you need some relax which you can find in practical skills which are not that difficult.

In conclusion, practical skills are not less important than academic subjects, and they should be taught at schools like the basic and fundamental subjects.

IS IT BETTER TO LIVE ALONE OR WITH SOMEONE ELSE?

BY NATALIA ALMAGRO #BTO2D

Independence has always been a problem for young people. Some old teenagers are said not to want to leave their houses, and others are said not to be able to do it. In fact, there are some disadvantages if you want to leave home.

Here in Spain, independence is not one of the most important things when you become an adult because you can find a job and continue living at home, so you do not need to go for a new house.

In other countries, their parents want them to leave home. It is very difficult to live alone, and you have to get used to being alone and independent, too. Moreover, you have to try not to feel lonely. Currently, I know people that no sooner have they left home than they are missing home due to their mothers' at home, for example taking care of charges.

One of the most important things of deciding if you live alone or not is to find good flatmates. However, it is very difficult for young adults to find responsible ones. For example, if you find a responsible one, you will be able to share your charges.

As a conclusion, it is very difficult to decide if you live alone or with someone else since each one has their advantages and disadvantages. However, from my point of view, it is better to live with someone else because it is cheaper and more enjoyable than living alone.

A BEAUTIFUL MIND

By LUCÍA SABAS #BTO2B

I am going to give you my opinion about a video that I saw the other day.

In that video we could see how Marx fell in love with a woman's mind who he hadn't ever met. He was in the library when he caught a book that had many notes around the book's pages. The notes showed the woman's thoughts. Fortunately, on the first page, he found her name.

Marx, the protagoinst, decided to look for the woman. Finally, They were sending a lot of letters to each other and she fell in love with him. One day, They met up at an airport, but, he didn't see the person who he was waiting for. He found a grandmother waiting for him, but it was an experiment created by the woman to check if after he saw the older woman, he still wanted to go to the restaurant with her.

In my opinion, I think that it is an incredible story because the woman didn't want him to fall in love with a face, but with a beautiful mind.

ON SCREEN OR AT HOME?

     ANDREA ASTORGA #BTO2B
Nowadays people have got many different ways to watch films, among them, we can choose watching a film at home or going to the cinema. Both of them have their advantages.

On the one hand, watching a film at home is more comfortable, because you can do things at home that you couldn´t do in the cinema, for example, lying down on your sofa. Moreover, this is also the cheapest way to watch a film as the popcorns are bought IN the supermarket.

On the other hand, watching a film in the cinema has got advantages, too. The main advantage is that there is a better atmosphere. Each time you go, you can see peope who are ready to watch the film with their popcorns and drinks.

To sum up, I think that watching a film in the cinema is better than watching a film at home because the screen is bigger than my TV, and the sound has got better quality.

NEW TECHNOLOGIES

BY ISABEL MARTÍN #BTO1D

In the world, the new technologies have caused a revolution, because our liVes are easier thanks to them.

If we talk about medicine, we can highlight the new illnesses that doctors have treated and discovered thanks to new technologies. These have helped to save many lives or have a better life.

Also, it has facilitated those people who live far away from their families and friends. With new technologies they can communicate with them easily and faster.

New technologies are also useful to search for some information faster and more efficient, although sometimes sources aren´t safe at all.

In my opinion, there are more advantages than disadvantages of new technologies. The disadvantages have caused that many children dedicate their time using these media instead of spending their free time playing sports, going out with friends, etc.

Another disadvantage is that most of these products are very expensive, and many people spend their money buying mobiles, computers, etc, when they need it for other things.

But in conclusion, I believe that the new technologies have been a good discovery for the world.

ORATORY AT SCHOOL

 BY DANIEL PÉREZ #BTO2A

Why should our students learn about public speaking? Nowadays, people are keeping more attention and taking on importance to the way we speak in public and the quality of our oratory.

First, I would define oratory as the process and ability to communicate, persuade or argue something in order to convince and individual or a group of people. Having told that, I cannot conceive the idea of instructing future professionals without a formal knowledge of public speaking. It is useful in any kind of relation and it will improve our social skills. I think future job market won't demand shy people, but workers who know how to defend their ideas.

I really think education system must include subjects as oratory. For me, it is essential for everyone knowing how to well communicate their thoughts with security and confidence. Due to this opinion, I would promote public speaking more and better in schools and universities with debate clubs and classes of oratory.

It's not late to improve yet.
